Qibla Direction

قبلہ رخ · क़िबला दिशा

Apne shehar se Kaaba ki sahi simt degree mein dekhiye, aur phone par live compass chalaiye.

Calculating…

Without the live compass, the dial shows North at the top: line up the N with real north, and the 🕋 needle points to the Qibla.

🧭 Calibration: phone compasses use a magnetic sensor. Before trusting the live needle, move the phone in a slow figure-8 a few times, hold it flat, and keep it away from metal, magnets, speakers, cars and steel beams. Phone readings can be off by several degrees indoors, so cross-check the degree figure with your masjid's mihrab or a map when you can.

How to use the Qibla finder

Choose your city, or press Use my location for an exact result where you are standing. The page shows the Qibla as degrees measured clockwise from true north, the compass point (for example west-north-west) and the distance to the Kaaba. On a phone with a compass sensor, press Start live compass: the dial turns as you turn, and a message tells you how many degrees to turn left or right until you face the Qibla. On iPhone, Safari asks for permission first — tap Allow. If your device has no compass, simply use the degree figure with any ordinary compass or a map.

Shehar chunein, phone ko seedha (flat) rakhein aur 🕋 wali sui ki taraf rukh karein.

How the direction is calculated

The Qibla is the direction of the shortest path over the Earth's surface — the "great circle" — from your location to the Kaaba in Makkah, taken here as 21.4225° N, 39.8262° E. The calculator uses the standard spherical-trigonometry formula for the initial bearing of a great circle, the same method used by most Qibla apps. On a flat map the line can look different from what you expect, which is why the answer is not simply "west".

From the cities in our list, the Qibla in India ranges from about 257° in the far north to 294° in the far south, and in Pakistan from about 254° to 268°. For example, it is 282.7° from Hyderabad (a little north of west), 266.6° from Delhi and 267.7° from Karachi (a little south of west).

Facing the Qibla in the Quran and Sunnah

Allah says: "So turn your face toward al-Masjid al-Haram. And wherever you [believers] are, turn your faces toward it" (Quran 2:144). Al-Bara' ibn 'Azib narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed facing Bait-ul-Maqdis for sixteen or seventeen months, but loved to face the Ka'bah, until this verse was revealed; a man who had prayed with him then passed some Ansar praying 'Asr towards Bait-ul-Maqdis, told them, and they turned towards the Ka'bah (Sahih al-Bukhari 399).

Accuracy and calibration

The degree figure is exact for the coordinates used. The live needle is only as good as your phone's magnetic sensor, which is easily disturbed by nearby metal and electronics. It also points to magnetic north rather than true north; across most of India and Pakistan the difference is small, but recalibrating and checking against a reliable reference — your masjid's mihrab, or a map app showing the line to Makkah — is wise. Many scholars hold that when the Kaaba itself is not in sight, sincerely facing its direction is what is required; if you have a specific doubt, ask your local scholar.

The live compass needs a secure (https) connection and a device with a compass sensor. Most laptops do not have one, so on a computer you will see the static bearing only.

Important: This tool gives general guidance. Har shakhs ka maamla alag ho sakta hai — apne personal case ke liye kisi mustanad local aalim ya mufti se zaroor mashwara karein.

FAQ / Aksar pooche jaane wale sawal

What is the Qibla direction from India?

From the cities on this page it ranges from about 257° (Srinagar) to 294° (Thiruvananthapuram) from true north — roughly west, turning more north of west the further south you are. Hyderabad is 282.7°.

What is the Qibla direction from Pakistan?

About 254° to 268° from true north for the cities listed — slightly south of west. Karachi is 267.7° and Lahore 260.4°.

Why does the live compass not match the degree figure?

Phone compasses are magnetic and are disturbed by metal, magnets and electronics. Move the phone in a figure-8 to calibrate, hold it flat away from metal, and trust the calculated degrees over a wobbling needle.

Does the live compass work on iPhone?

Yes, on iOS 13 or later in Safari: tap Start live compass and allow motion and orientation access. It needs the site to be opened over https.
